Infants and toddlers are often calmed and soothed by the sound of a familiar voice and the cadence and rhythm that occurs naturally when reading children’s books aloud provides an excellent way for both parent and child to wind down at the end of the day. Holding a child while reading to them and allowing them to participate by looking at the pictures and perhaps turning the pages creates a closeness that I believe can facilitate bonding between parent and child.
